Ego Death is a recasting of the work ‘Icarus’ by Henry Goltzius, an 18th century engraver whose technical skill and baroque style has profoundly inspired Ocean’s portfolio. The work plays dramatically with chiaroscuro, moulding shadows to create a dynamic figure while the skull overlay infuses the image with a sense of impending mortality.
